You might want to hold off on grabbing all the gear for your latest New Year’s resolution-based sports fix. Zepp has confirmed it is working with a number of sports equipment manufacturers to fill your next racket or bat with sensors.

Having made a name for itself by creating swing and impact sensors that strap onto the end of tennis rackets, baseball bats and golf gloves, Zepp is now looking to integrate its sensors within the equipment itself.

To achieve this, the company has partnered with a number of leading equipment manufacturers and created a new, compact, round sensor that will fit all manner of sports accessories.

Dubbed ‘Powered by Zepp’, the new system will see the single sensor unit slot into the standardised cavity built into the end of a number of big-brand products. This will then deliver swing feedback including speed, swing plan and impact to a connected smartphone via Bluetooth.

As well as following its roots in tennis, baseball and golf, Zepp is also making its new sensor cricket- and badminton-friendly.

With the first range of compatible products to roll out over the next 12 months, Zepp hopes that its system will become the standard for a new industry in connected sports tracking.

With the 6 gram sensor not troubling the balance or weighting of the sports equipment, the tech firm believes knowing exactly what product its sensors are being used with will let it offer even more accurate swing analysis.

Exact equipment partners, compatible products and pricing is to be announced in the coming weeks.
