Apple has announced it will indeed hold a special media event on Wednesday September 12 in San Francisco. The event will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater, beginning at 10 a.m. Pacific, that’s Thursday September 13 at 3 a.m. AEST for us.
The invitation featured the text “It’s almost here” along with a large number 12 casting the shadow of a numeral 5, which would seem to lend credence to suggestions that Apple will be announcing the iPhone 5. Apple is also likely to discuss iOS 6, and announce it’s release date.
Many believed that Apple will ditch the number in the next iPhone’s name as it did with the third-generation iPad, simply naming it the new iPhone. However, the presence of the five in the invitation could suggest that Apple will be naming the device the iPhone 5 after all.
Plenty of whispers about the iPhone 5 have been circulating in the past months, and many of them have centered around a September 12 event. Among the most persistant rumours have been a phone with a larger display, and a new dock-connector port.
Another suggestion is that Apple will be launching five new products at the event, but others have pointed out that the line “it’s almost here” points to only one product launch.
