Arsenal's Theo Walcott celebrates after scoring the opening goal against Newcastle United during their English Premier League soccer match at the Emirates stadium, London, Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.

Having let you monitor your swings in golf, tennis and baseball, sensor specialist Zepp now has its eyes set on football tracking.

Speaking with Digital Spy out at CES 2016, the American firm has confirmed it will launch a new football-friendly sensor and software platform dubbed Zepp Soccer later this year.

While finalised details are still thin on the ground, Zepp CEO Jason Fass told us that the football (sorry, soccer) sensor will actually comprise of two modules, one for each leg.

These will be placed within users’ socks at launch, although Zepp is hoping to make the sensors compatible with a range of specialised football boots from key kit manufacturers moving forward.

Unlike the Adidas SmartBall which tells you how hard and where you’ve stuck the ball, Zepp Soccer will be more team-focussed, telling players and coaches how hard each player has worked in a game or training session.

This will essentially create new levels of competition and highlight those players not working for the team.

Exact data metrics are still unclear, although it is likely that distances covered, sprint times and speeds will be including.

Although confirmed for launch later in 2016, a precise release date and pricing are still to be confirmed.
